What's the story behind your username and avatar? Well actually, I just wanted to have Polarwolf, but that was taken, so I added my lucky number 9 to it. I love polar wolves but thats not why I made it my username. A long time ago I was writing a story for my (future) comic, and one of the Protagonists from that story was an assassin called the White Reaper, and his real name is Polaris Lupine, or simplified Polar Wolf.
What do you like of deviant art? I like the fact that I can get some critique on my work, because in real life people dont have much to say. And its cool that I've actually improved so much thanks to all the constructive comments I get from fellow deviants. Its also a major source of inspiration for me because there are soooooo many amazing artists out there. A couple of my favorites would be Sakimichan and Patrick Brown.
What type of artist are you and why do you love it? I'm a Digital Artist. I used to be very into the 'Manga' style, but I quickly got out of it once I found out how much it was crippling my ability as an artist. I then went on to more semi realistic art and I was getting acquainted to it when I saw Patrick Browns art. I was already in love with the american comic style art thanks to the new X Force art and Deadpool, but now my decision was made. So I try to do american style art sometimes, but I dont ignore semi-realism either. ^_^
Explain us about your workflow- "steps to do your art"? Some times I sketch a basic outline on paper and take a photo of it, or scan it, but I dont do this step most of the time. I'll just do the basic outline in Paint Tool Sai, then I switch over to photoshop for the colors. A new technique I've learnt is to go the art in grayscale and then put the colour on top of it, this helps you to concentrate on the values and hues at different times in the art, and you can be more precise with them.
Who is your favourite artist? Ohh I have so many. As a Manga fan, I loved Obata Takeshi's art, he was the artist for Death Note, Hikaru no Go and Bakuman, he also does character design for popular japanese games. Then I love Patrick Brown and his amazing american style art, he's more of a fan-artist, only drawing things from games that he love and so on. Sakimichan is THE deviant artist. Everyone on deviant knows her and loves her art.
Do you accept commissions, requests or art trades? I do accept commissions, my price is 100
which is a little higher than most, but for that I'll draw whatever you want to the best of my ability. I do requests if the topics are ones that interest me, but generally, no. Art trades.. I've never done one before, but I'm open to the idea, it would be nice if I did it with someone who is so much better than me though.
An advice for other artists? First piece of advice, and this goes out to all amateur manga style artists. Stop. just stop. there is SO much manga art out there, and your not going to get any better unless your draw from life, and do something a little more realistic. I have nothing against manga art, (I used to be that kind of an artist myself) its just once you get in that bubble, it pretty much cripples you. To all you manga artists that you think your capable as a artist as well just ask yourself these two questions "Is my art different from the rest?" and "Have I drawn a detailed background recently?" if the answer to both is no, then I've got some bad news for you...
Anything else to say? Well, a little bit. I feel the need to tell everyone to try out new styles of art as much as possible. I love comic art and cartoon art, so if your a realisic artist, you shoudl give that a shot too. Everyone should try as many types of art as they can before they decide 'Hey, from now on I'm gonna be a _____ artist!!'. Thats all I have to say
